In this module, drugs classified as medicines include the following: aspirin or Tylenol, antibiotics, fluoride, and immunizations. With medicines, however, it is extremely important to follow the dosage prescribed by the health care provider. Taking too much medicine or not enough can be dangerous. Some drugs may be helpful or harmful. Early medicine was very different from modern medicine. There was a large emphasis on ritualistic practices and superstition. Disease and sickness was often seen as an evil spirit taking over the body or even a God that the victim of the illness wronged and is now being punished for. The core clerkships include 8-week rotations in the clinical disciplines of Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, and Gynecology and Obstetrics; and 4-week rotations in Neurology, Psychiatry, and Emergency Medicine. The core list presents a list of minimum medicine needs for a basic health-care system, listing the most efficacious, safe and cost–effective medicines for priority conditions. List every prescription medication, OTC medication, vitamin, supplement, herbal product, and traditional cultural medicine that you are currently taking. Also list things you have stopped taking because of allergic reactions or for other reasons (like side efects, cost, or if it did not work).
